Al Fahidi

ABOUT AL FAHIDI

Al Fahidi, formerly known as Al Bastakiya, is one of Dubai's oldest and most culturally significant neighbourhoods. Located along the western banks of Dubai Creek in Bur Dubai, the district dates back to the late 19th century when Persian merchants from Bastak, Iran, settled here and established a thriving trading community. Today, it remains one of the city's best-preserved heritage districts, offering visitors and residents a glimpse into traditional Emirati architecture and old Dubai.

Unlike Dubai's modern skyscraper districts, Al Fahidi is characterised by narrow sikkas (laneways), restored wind-tower houses, museums, art galleries, boutique hotels and cultural centres. The neighbourhood is managed as a protected heritage area and forms part of the wider Dubai Creek historic district. The area is home to major cultural attractions including the Sheikh Mohammed Centre for Cultural Understanding (SMCCU), Coffee Museum, Coin Museum, Al Fahidi Fort, XVA Gallery and numerous traditional cafés. Its location beside Dubai Creek, Meena Bazaar and Al Seef makes it one of Dubai's most visited heritage destinations throughout the year.
